Hello and welcome luminous fireflies! I’m your host Tonia. In these last few episodes, we’ve been focusing on becoming who you are and who you need to be in this moment and this season as change occurs. Let's now focus on actively welcoming that change and our best life.
Our episode affirmation is: I AM ACTIVELY WELCOMING MY BEST LIFE.
Big changes are going to happen consistently in our lives. And they happen whether we welcome them or not. And truthfully, change is often unwelcome. Change is incredibly scary. The unknown, the unfamiliar territory, the realizing that you don’t even know all that you don’t know. As such, recognizing we need to change can often paralyze us in the face of significant changes. Still, you know you need to make a change. And you know that if you don’t take action that things will certainly not get better on their own and you won’t become the you that you’re meant to be in this moment.
Now, whenever change comes, the goal is to navigate it with the intentions of the actions you take being positive ones. While the change that is occurring in your life may be beyond your control, the actions you are taking and the adjustments, i.e., changes you are making in this new moment should be well thought out and decided and acted upon with the goal of you being the best version of you and living your best life.
In today’s episode I share a few tips on how to take action toward making needed positive changes in your life, even when you’re not ready, or even when you don’t want to.
Imagine Your Future If You Change
One of the best ways to approach any adjustment or pivot you plan to take in your life is to take time to be still, close your eyes, and envision what your future will look like with change. How this new moment and season will look. Consider all aspects of your life that will be affected by the change. As you create your plans and roadmaps, ask yourself, is this a life you want? Do you see good things happening? Is this a reaction or a positive move made on your terms.
Assess and Decide Your Risks
Yes, change is amazing, but it can be scary because it comes with risk, evenif the risk is only the feeling of uneasiness of stepping out of your comfort zone. And that seems to sugarcoat it because a lot of time change requires a lot from you mentally, physically, and emotionally. So when making your plans, you must decide your risks in terms of the actions you are taking to navigate or effect this change. List out what you are risking. Make a list of everything that you are afraid of giving up (potentially or for sure) if you make this change. Really take stock, brainstorm. Again don’t react as if it’s a hopeless situation. The goal is to be proactive in your happiness.
Imagine Your Future If You Don’t Change
Okay, taking the risks into account, I now want you to imagine your life if you don’t change. Consider your future life if you don’t make that change. Do you see yourself being happy? Do you see the same old same old? Now , consider the outcomes of both futures you have imagined. Does one seem better? Does one have more opportunities for happiness? Be honest with these imagined futures, these imagined new seasons.
Stop Researching And Engaging In Analysis Paralysis
So you’ve imagined yourself in this new season. You've looked at the risks of making adjustments and changes in this new season. One of the ways to actually take action is to basically stop researching and engaging in analysis paralysis. If you’ve done your research and are aware of what is coming, then stop searching and start taking action. Trust you will be guided to make the best decisions. You will never have all the information or know all the outcomes — no one can or will! You can easily convince yourself you need more information and more validation when really you are just procrastinating and delaying taking action.
Trust Yourself And Your Instincts
I need you to trust yourself and your instincts. Reflect back on your life, consider the changes you have made, and the ways in which you have dealt with change and challenges, and how you pulled through and thrived. You’ve done tough things before; made difficult, but rewarding decisions. You can do it again. Have faith in yourself and face change like the luminous and fantabulously stellar person you are.
Seek And Accept Support
Stop trying to do it all on your own. Change is scary and challenging, but you do not have to go it alone. Recruit essential people in your life to support you through these changes. This new season. We do not live our lives alone. We must interact with other people and other creatures in shared spaces as we navigate life. So find and use your support system. This can be a partner, friend, parent, or anyone willing to give advice, an ear, a shoulder, or help fill in the gaps in other areas of your life as you go through the transition into your new season.
Start Small
One of the reasons you may be fearing change and hesitating to take any action is because you are trying to change your entire life, forever, all at once. You do not have to climb the mountain of change all one step or even jump in with both feet. When a big change is staring you in the face, assess what needs to happen, break it down into small steps that you can conquer one by one. Doing this will make everything seem more manageable and less scary. And know little changes can add up to make significant differences and they’ll allow you to do things at your own pace which is more beneficial and gives you a chance to really understand the change and make the best adjustments within it in the way that is most positive for you in your new season.
And to add to that, it’s very easy when you’re facing changes that sometimes all you can see is the significant milestones, or the finish line, right? Try to look past those, consider the space and knowledge between all of those milestones and benchmarks. You will learn new things, meet new people, and grow on that journey. Take your eyes off the finish line and focus on the new journey you get to go on.
Give Yourself Grace
As always, give yourself grace! Mistakes are going happen. Missteps will be taken. Balls will be dropped. Things are not going to go the way that you envision them. And sometimes the lemons will be so rotten, you don’t make lemonade. You throw them out. It’s the inevitability of life. It’s the beauty of life, we’ll say. Taking the plunge and pushing yourself into much needed change does not have to be an all or nothing situation, and you don’t have to go it alone. Consider the steps you need to take and how you can set yourself up for success once change is on the horizon. Whatever happens, give yourself grace as you navigate this new territory and find your way on your journey of change.
Making changes, adjustments, pivots, and entering into a new season is not a passive process. And understand, this isn’t the first time or the last time you will enter a new season or find yourself having to adjust or pivot. Just know you have the ability to make an effort, contribute, and actively work to make the best of every situation. You deserve all the good. You deserve to be happy and have joy and to live your best life. Making an effort, even when you’re afraid of what is to come, will allow you to have a say on how things go. You owe it to yourself to become the best you and live your best life.
So it's time you welcome YOU. Beautiful, luminous, dynamic, and fantabulous you. Welcome the change that allows you to be beautiful, luminous, dynamic, and fantabulous you.
